Certification Case Study - Moral Fairground
BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Moral Fairground identified the need for an effective sustainability management system as part of their bid to host Australia’s largest fair trade and ethical festival, which addresses sustainability in the context of an event.
SOLUTION
Bureau Veritas Certification will be certifying Moral Fairground to the new sustainability management systems standard. ISO 20121 provides a framework to implement a system to manage an event’s sustainable development issues. The standard specifies the requirements for a sustainable management system for any type of event or event-related activity and provides guidance on being measured against those requirements.
Moral Fairground will be one of Bureau Veritas’ first clients to be certified under the new standard, which the company believes will be a promising one for the Certification division.
BENEFITS
Moral Fair ground is in the process of creating its event sustainability management system; once this is completed, Bureau Veritas Certification will initiate its certification process to ISO 20121. The standard specifies the requirements for a sustainable management system for any type of event or event-related activity that wishes to establish, implement, maintain and improve an event sustainability management system as a framework for identifying the potentially negative impacts of events, which include removing or reducing them, and capitalizing on the more positive impacts through improved resource efficiency, planning and processes. Secondly, a management system approach will also emit more credibility with stakeholders and regulators.

This relationship creates a great opportunity to certify a company to a new standard and also demonstrate Bureau Vertias’ broad certification services. Bureau Veritas will also continue to be a major sponsor of Moral Fairground’s Fair@Square festival which is Australia’s largest Fair Trade and Ethical festival.
