Bureau Veritas in Australia has been awarded by Rio Tinto a $1.0M USD contract to provide QHSE Certification
BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Rio Tinto’s challenge was to:
• Seek a unique qualified Global Certification Provider (GCP), required to effectively provide external certification services for health, safety, environment (HSE) and quality management systems across Rio Tinto worldwide locations.
• Find a provider able to mobilize qualified resources with mining background for all Rio Tinto’s global businesses, primarily North America, Australasia, UK/Europe and Southern Africa, including some remote locations in Canada, Iceland, Mongolia and Madagascar.
• Keep track and gain visibility on the certification status of all their sites worldwide.
SOLUTION
Bureau Veritas in Australia will provide the following services:
• QHSE Certification to Rio Tinto across 22 countries under Jas-Anz accreditation
• Central Project Management in Australia to coordinate delivery and liaise with Client HQ
• Added value services with improved communication through Client Portal
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
• Rio Tinto as existing key customer of Commodities & Industry divisions
• CER large experience in the mining sector with clients such as Anglo American Coal, Newmont Asia Pacific, BHP Billiton, Downer Mining and Anglo Gold Ashanti.
• A Global Operations Hub was established to facilitate scheduling, report management, certificate issuance and operational communication. The team was supported by a centralised portal and other dedicated tools (e.g. Maestro: centralised tool for review and storage of audit records accessible anywhere and anytime, Toll Free Phone Line to Global Operations Hub, Generic Mailbox, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), etc.)
• By using multi-disciplined auditors, Bureau Veritas will be able to identify additional relevant services to assist the client to meet its operational needs/requirements.
