The ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management Systems
The ISO/DIS ISO 45001.2, the new international standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management Systems, was approved in July.
This is an important step as ISO 45001 advances towards a Final Draft International Standard (FDIS). The OH&S standard is expected to be released by early 2018.
The key concepts for ISO 45001 are:
• Leadership – Higher commitment from Top Management in all the processes.
• Risk Management – Increasing awareness of its OH&S hazards and risk, and associated operational controls, through information, communication and training.
• Integrated Approach – To increase compatibility and integration of business processes with other Management System schemes, i.e. ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015
Comparison guide
Bureau Veritas has recently released a comparison guide between ISO/DIS 45001.2 and OHSAS 18001 OH&S Management System to assist organisations with the transition to the new standard.

Please note: The Comparison Guide is based on the Draft International Standard (DIS.2) and provides an overview of the key changes between the OHSAS 18001 and ISO/DIS 45001.2. It is possible that some requirements may be amended between the FDIS and ISO standard – this will be reflected in future issues of this guide.
